Creative Dance:  Ages 3½ - 5

Creative Dance is designed for the young dancer age 3½ though five.  Elementary ballet principles are the foundation of the class, but the focus is on the joy of movement.  We explore animals, shapes, scarves, and improvisation.   Classes meet one time per week for forty-five minutes September through May concluding with The Spring Performance.

Preballet:  Ages 5-7Ballet at the Dance Center

Preballet is designed for the dancer age five through seven.   This structured class introduces the basics of academic ballet work, musicality, and movement vocabulary.  This class ignites imagination while encouraging trust in their movement choices.  Classes meet one time per week for forty-five minutes September through May concluding with The Spring Performance.

Ballet I-IV

Four levels of ballet give special attention to correct body placement for classical dance. All levels incorporate stretching and strengthening in preparation for the wonderful years of dance ahead.  Movement vocabulary is expanded with musical phrasing emphasized.  Students grow individually at their own rate being placed at the proper level.  Ballet IV gives the opportunity to experience pointe work for the serious dancer demanding strength, commitment, and focus.  Students attend one to three classes per week September through May concluding with The Spring Performance.

Advanced Ballet at the Dance CenterBallet V

Ballet V is for the dancer seeking pre-professional dance education.  Advanced ballet students should be prepared for strenuous pointe work with an emphasis on classical variations and technique.  Dancers are encouraged to attend summer programs, participate in master classes, or join performing ensembles.

Jazz, Lyrical, and Hip Hop

Jazz incorporates African-American rhythms and dance technique with an emphasis on the downbeat.  Lyrical dance is a style that blends jazz technique with choreography that strives to interpret the story and emotions of the music.  Hip Hop is “street dance”, primarily danced to popular music and includes styles of breaking, popping and locking. Classes are available to broaden a dancer’s training.
